Power Frequency High Current Test

When insulation failures are experienced in some installations, the power behind the point of failure might drive power frequency currents of considerable amplitudes through the system until a fuse or circuit breaker interrupts the current. In other instances the triggering and possible failure of an overvoltage protection system might lead to a short circuit current between line phase and the ground connection. Again a considerable short circuit current is the consequence, affecting the circuitry to an extent which must be verified.

For this purpose, Testinglab Denmark test with a variable current source capable of generating currents of up to 6kA ACRMS for 30min. The current source is regulated from 0-6kA with variable output voltage, and tests can be conducted such that current pulses of limited time duration are injected into the system.

The tests are performed according to customer specifications, possibly the UL XXX or similar test standards.

The Power frequency high current test is documented with a test report containing pictures and test results.
