Test Facility

The indoor test facility located in central Jutland measures 70m by 30m, and has a minimum height of 14m. With the 20ton lifting capacity in the entire test field, tests of large structures like entire wind turbine blades and similar components are possible.

Roads and access areas are prepared to handle wind turbines blades up to 70m in length and other components up to a height and width of 8x8m.

The test bay is 70m long, 30m wide and 14m+ high in order to accommodate large full scale test objects like wind turbine blades and nacelles, and large structures from other industries.

“We believe that the wind turbine industry among others will continue to request more and more testing and verification of its designs”, says Kim Bertelsen, General Manager in Testinglab. “Many of the leading wind turbine manufacturers have their R&D organizations located in Denmark and we in Testinglab Denmark are prepared to support them with our experience and knowledge in the field of lightning protection and associated testing”, Kim Bertelsen continues.

Roads and access areas are prepared to handle wind turbines blades up to 70m in length and other components up to a height and width of 8x8m.

“We have designed our test equipment to meet all requirements in the new IEC standard IEC 61400-24, which regulate lightning protection of wind turbines”, says Technical Manager Søren Find Madsen. "Complying with this standard, also enable us to perform other high current/high voltage tests for relevant industries".

The test equipment can deliver impulse currents up to 250.000 Ampere and impulse voltages up to 2.000.000 Volt. All test equipment is constructed to be mobile for testing also outside the facility – on outdoor test fields – or eventually at the customer premises if transportation of the test samples is inconvenient.

“Testinglab Denmark is not only testing large scale components. Also small samples as cables and cable connectors are frequently tested to full fill international standards for lifetime performance”, says Søren Find Madsen.

Testinglab Denmark ApS is an affiliated company to the companies Highvoltage.dk ApS and Electricon A/S, two companies that is well known for engineering and consultancy services within the field of high voltage and lightning protection. Electricon A/S is relocated to have its head office at the same address as the new testing laboratory in Herning, whereas Highvoltage.dk ApS is continuing having its address in Lejre, south of Roskilde, where also a smaller test laboratory is in operation.
